ABSTRACT:
To evaluate the effect of Acharya Technique on low back pain among nurses in critical care unit of a particular hospital in Thanjavur district, a study was conducted. For the purpose of this study, a quasi-experimental study research approach was employed. A non-probability purposive sampling technique was utilized for sample selection. The level of low back pain among nurses in critical care was assessed by the investigator through quantitative numerical pain rating scale. On day 2 after the pretest, the examiner explained Acharya Technique to the candidates. From day 3 to day 17, the candidates under supervision of the investigator performed Acharya Technique for 3-5 minutes in the morning and evening for 15 consecutive days. A checklist was maintained during the observation of the sample set. The rating scale was used by the researcher on day 18 to perform the posttest and measure the effectiveness of the intervention. The mean value obtained was 3.83 with a standard deviation reading of 2.50. The ‘t’ test value (Calculated Value) =30.89 which was greater than the Tabulated value =2.05. The statistical data confirmed that there was significant difference in posttest levels of low back pain among nurses in critical care. This study result showed that Acharya Technique was effective in reducing low back pain among the nurses working in critical care unit.
