ABSTRACT:
Introduction: Anemia remains a significant health concern among nursing students, Impacting their academic performance and overall well-being. Dietary interventions Offer a promising approach to address anemia. This study investigates the effect of Beetroot juice with jaggery on hemoglobin levels in nursing students, exploring its Potential as a natural and accessible remedy. Research Question: Is there any effect of Beetroot juice with Jaggery in improving the Level of Haemoglobin among Nursing students in Educational Institutions at Kollam District? Objectives: Assess the level of Haemoglobin among Nursing students in Educational Institution, evaluate the effect of Beetroot juice with Jaggery in improving the level of Haemoglobin among Nursing students in Educational Institution and to find out The association between the pretest level of Haemoglobin among Nursing students with Selected demographic variables. Methodology: Pre – experimental one group pretest posttest design was used in this Study among 40 Nursing students at Holy Cross College of Nursing, Kottiyam, Kollam and were selected by randomization. The pretest was done to assess the level of Haemoglobin among Nursing students in Educational Institution by using Haemoglobin Estimation Scale. After the pretest the investigator administered Beetroot juice with Jaggery in improving the level of Haemoglobin. The posttest was Conducted after 15 days of intervention. The collected data was analyzed with Inferential and descriptive statistics. Result: In this study, out of 40 subjects 85% of the Nursing students had moderate Anaemia, 15% of the Nursing students had severe anaemia in the pretest. In the posttest 20% of Nursing students have mild anaemia, 45% of Nursing students have moderate Anaemia, 10% of Nursing students have severe anaemia. An average pretest and posttest Haemoglobin rating scale were 9.965 and 10.777 respectively. The computed ‘t’ value of pretest – posttest Haemoglobin rating scale score effect Beetroot juice with Jaggery in improving the hemoglobin level was 4.28 and p value of 0.000059. Since calculated P value was less than 0.05 (P<0.05). So Null Hypothesis (H01) is rejected. There was a significant association between pretest Haemoglobin estimation scale scores and Demographic variables such as religion (?2 = 6.33, p value = 0.03), socio economic status (?2 = 5.77, p value = 0.04), history of illness/infection (?2 = 6.79, p value = 0.009) And family history of anemia (?2 = 3.75, p value = 0.04). Conclusion: This study demonstrates the efficacy of beetroot juice with jaggery in Significantly improving hemoglobin levels among nursing students. The findings Suggest that this natural intervention can be a valuable adjunct to traditional anemia Management strategies, offering a practical and accessible solution for nursing students.
