ABSTRACT:
An estimated 88,000 people (approximately 62,000 men and 26,000 women) die from alcohol-related causes annually, making alcohol the third leading preventable cause of death in the United States. The first is tobacco, and the second is poor diet and physical inactivity. Substance abuse can have a negative impact on a person’s physical and mental health. It can lead to conditions such as liver disease, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and depression. Substance abuse can also increase the risk of accidents and injuries. Treatment can involve medication, therapy, and support groups. Recovery is possible with the right help!
